Week 1 - Review


Some favorite Chinese words from you:

shāo mài 

shí wù (food)

hóu zi (monkey)

wǔ shù (martial arts)

yīn yáng (Yin and Yang)

hǎi (sea),   hǎi yáng (ocean)

Words/phrases/sentences Review:

nǐ hǎo (How are you?/How're you doing?)

nǐ hǎo ma? (How are you?/How're you doing?)

nǐ zěn me yàng? (What's up?) 

wǒ hěn hǎo,  nǐ ne? (Very good/Very well, and you?)

tǐng hǎo de. (I'm fine.)

nǐ jiào  shén me  míng zi? (What's your name?)

wǒ jiào ________. nǐ ne? (______, and you?)


wǒ jiào ________. 

hěn [gāo xìng] [rèn shi] nǐ. (Nice meeting you!)

Different tones differentiate meanings.  
Mandarin Chinese has 5 basic tones:
First tone to Fourth tone, and neutral tone

[mā ma] qí [mǎ]  (Mom is riding a horse.)
mǎ màn (The horse is running slow.)
[mā ma] mà [mǎ] (Mom blames the horse.)
